Writing About Your Creative Work with OCAD University

What is an artist statement? What is a statement of intent? You may have heard these terms before and wondered what do they mean? Simply put, an artist statement is a short description of what you make and why you make it. Writing about your art or design work is part and parcel of being an artist and how you introduce yourself to the world. You will often be called upon to submit an artist statement when you apply for school, internships, jobs, or exhibitions. Not only that, but they are also an immensely useful tool in helping you understand your practice and how you are growing as an artist.

In this workshop, we highlight tips on how to put together an artist statement and biography through short writing prompts to help you kick start the process. So come with a pen handy and join us!

This workshop is presented by OCAD University and is part of a series of online engagements including workshops, artist talks, and professional development opportunities for students participating in EDGE: Youth Art Show 2022. All activities are being offered online via Zoom, please see our project page for a complete list of upcoming engagements.
